Healthy Foods in Reach

The queen of healthy food choices is Mary Beth Laxson and her Juicy's Wellness Cafe. In addition tasty juices and filling plant-based lunch options, Juicy's also has protein bars for folks on the run, delicious hummus for a easy snack, and a library of books to understand the specific benefits of different fruits and vegetables. this queen will soon become an Empress with a second Juicy's location opening up in Murfreesboro this year. Juicy's isn't alone with healthy options also available at the other establishments; Cumberland Biscuit Company prides itself on offering healthy, 300 calorie breakfast options. Of course, come April, the Warren County Farmers Market will kick into gear and local farmers will offer fresh vegetables and other healthy options.

Exercise a Plenty

Downtown McMinnville has a wealth of studios that encourage exercise and self-improvement. McMinnville Jiu Jitsu Academy on N. Spring Street trains adults and youth in this Brazilian technique which offers self-confidence, defense, and fitness, and the academy also offers fitness yoga classes. Right next door Highland Rim Crossfit gym touts a new approach to training and gym equipment; if you visit downtown often, Highland Rim's teams of runners are a familiar sight even in winter! The Twisted Yogis on East Main Street offer yoga classes for beginners through advanced at convenient times throughout the week. And don't forget Paula's Dance Academy which has dance classes for youth.

Walking Made Easy

Perhaps you are more of a walker than a gym-goer. For folks with a 30-min lunch break, McMinnville Parks and Rec has mapped out the downtown, and you can find a sign right in front of the courthouse on Main Street showing what amounts to a half mile of walking. If you have more time and a taste for nature, consider walking down West Main Street to Riverfront Park through the Greenway and across to Pepper Branch Park to enjoy our city's beautiful natural assets. Parks and Rec have also recently installed new fitness apparatus in Riverfront Park.

Sleep Seekers

Restful sleep is hard to come especially when you can't quite reach that 8 hours a night recommended. While we can't help you with the number of hours, we can help make them quality hours. The Trendy Trunk offers essential oils by Art of Wellness including lavender which has been proven to calm and help you sleep more restfully. Poppie's Boutique has cozy pajamas for women to stay comfortable through the night and stay asleep.

This is just a quick list to keep us all moving towards healthier goals - but maybe we missed something! Send us your favorites downtown tips for staying healthy and we'll share them on our social media channels.
