Special concert, Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Magness Library featuring Pete Huttlinger, noted for being John Denver’s lead guitarist for the last five years before his death in 1997.
The show will also feature Jim and Inge Wood, of the Tennessee Fiddle Orchestra, who have made a number of appearances locally, including a TFO concert at Warren County Middle School auditorium.
The library concert will begin with refreshments at 6 p.m., with food and drink provided by Steve Grove. The concert will run from 7 to 9 p.m., with two sets and a short intermission between.
Tickets are $20 and seating is limited to 75, so call the library now, at 473-2428, to reserve your ticket.
Huttlinger, who has had three headlining performances at Carnegie Hall, has been influenced by guitar legends like Chet Atkins, Earl Klugh and Tommy Emmanual. He has released a number of acclaimed instrumental albums and a successful series of guitar instructional DVDs. He also serves as guitarist for country music sensation LeAnn Rimes’ acoustic performances, including a recording at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in 2006.
The Woods are known for their wide-ranging musical background and eclectic choice of styles, including bluegrass, Celtic, swing, folk and traditional fiddle music. Jim is a five-time Tennessee Fiddle Champion and a 28-year veteran of the Nashville music scene. The talented multi-instrumentalist performs on fiddle, mandolin, banjo and guitar, with students and fellow musicians noting if it has strings, Jim can probably play it. Inge, a native of Costa Rica, is an accomplished singer and multi-instrumentalist in her own right, playing guitar, bouzouki and fiddle. Her hauntingly beautiful vocals, performed in both English and Spanish, have thrilled crowds wherever the pair performs. Also performing with the ensemble will be musician and traditional style dancer Hillary Bevels, who will clog as well as performing on fiddle and strings.
Jim met Huttlinger in the early 1980s while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, and the two have been fast friends ever since. Huttlinger eventually moved to Nashville and the two renewed their musical alliance. “Over the years we have maintained our friendship and on-and-off-again musical partnership, so here it is all these years later and we’re still pickin’ together and having fun,” Jim said. “Both of us have very eclectic musical tastes, and I think that’s one of the reasons we enjoy playing together so much. We’re going to play some old time fiddle tunes, some old spirituals, like ‘Wayfaring Stranger.’ We’re going to play some old time hoe-downs, we’re going to play some swing. We’re going to play some Latin American music. My wife Inge is from Costa Rica and she’ll be singing some in Spanish, as well as performing all the English vocals.”
