You have heard about the 3D downtown model, but so far it has not been available for viewing, until now. Google has created a sneak preview of downtown McMinnville. Not all of the buildings have been added, but the preview should give a good peek at what it will look like when finished. When complete, not only will the downtown be modeled, but also all of Warren County will have clear imagery on Google Earth.
The project is a culmination of the efforts of more than 38 volunteers over a five-month period. When complete, the project will include all of the commercial buildings in downtown. Trees, sidewalks and other amenities will be added later. The project has generated publicity from across the nation and world and has been featured in many publications, helping put McMinnville on the map.
Among the upcoming events will be the presentation to a national audience on April 1st, when Google will present the project to the National Main Street Conference in Philadelphia, PA. The project will also be featured as a case study on a new website being developed by Google to demonstrate the uses of Google SketchUp and Google Earth in downtown revitalization, public planning, economic development, historic preservation, commercial development, industrial development, retail development and more.
If you would like more information on this project, how you can do the same or how to model in 3D on Google Earth, contact Main Street McMinnville under the "Contact Us" on the home page.
