The Outdoor Shop recently made it known they were closing their store on Sparta Street. However, closing will not be forever, as the owners, Kenny and Debra Harriman are planning to construct a new building in downtown McMinnville.

The building will be located across the street from Dollar General Store and next door to the Fire Station. The new building will house The Outdoor Shop's main business which has become screen printing and embroidery for sports teams, corporate users and special events among other things. There will also be another retail space next door with parking on the side to compliment the on-street parking across the street. The new building is expected to be completed by late summer or early fall.

The building design was created with the use of the 3D modeling software called SketchUp and the use of Google Earth. The owners were able to get a first-hand look at what the building would basically look like and function before it was built both on the exterior and interior. "Using the 3D modeling offered by Main Street McMinnville, was really helpful. We were able to get a much better view of the space, solve some problems early and save money," said owner Debra Herriman.

Main Street McMinnville was able to communicate with building designers in Nashville by simply asking them to view the site and surrounding buildings on Google Earth. The design was developed by collaborating on-line to make a building functional in the space and fit with the design, character, and zero lot-lines of downtown buildings, while maximizing parking and access. The new building qualifies for an MDRFC Tax Freeze and an application is expected. For more information about the 3D modeling application, please contact the Main Street Office at 506-5335.
