Main Street McMinnville: Our Committees
Main Street McMinnville is a certified Main Street Program through the National Trust Main Street Center and the Tennessee Main Street Program under the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. Main Street McMinnville operates the program under a success National Trust Main Street four-point approach to downtown revitalization. The four points include Organization, Promotion, Design and Economic Restructuring. Each of the four points is planned and implemented through four separate volunteer committees bearing the same name and coordinated by professional management.
Organization Committee: The Organization Committee gets everyone involved, working toward the same goal(s). The committee builds consensus among stakeholders by forming coalitions and partnerships, managing volunteers, attracting money to the organization, promoting the program and its goals and managing finances and operations. The Organization Committee oversees Main Street LIVE!, the annual Summer Concert Series produced by Main Street McMinnville which is also a fund-raiser for the organization.
Promotion Committee: The Promotions Committee sells the downtown through a variety of ways. The committee sells the image and promise of downtown by marketing the district's unique characteristics to shoppers, investors, new businesses and visitors. An effective promotional strategy forges a positive image through advertising, retail promotions, special events and marketing campaigns carried out by local volunteers. It is important that the Promotions Committee have open communication with the downtown businesses, city and county officials and civic organizations throughout McMinnville and Warren County. The committee plans and implements projects such as the Downtown Pioneer Kick-off and Tailgate Rally, Trick or Treat on Main Street and other events designed to draw people downtown.
Design Committee: The Design Committee plans and implements goals that get downtown into tip-top physical shape. Capitalizing on our best assets, historic buildings and our traditional downtown layout including a Court House Square the Design Committee works to create an inviting atmosphere created through window displays, clean and inviting parking areas, good lighting, eye-catching signage (public and business), sidewalks and landscaping that convey a quality visual message about what downtown has to offer. The Design Committee oversees the Design Review portion of the Financial Incentive Programs (Design Grant, Low Interest Loan, and Interest-Free Loan Programs). They have also been instrumental in developing the design of the downtown street and sidewalk improvements that was completed in 2005.
Economic Restructuring Committee: Economic Restructuring means finding new purpose for downtown's enterprises. The committee finds ways to help retain and expand existing business; recruit new businesses to respond to the changing market; help convert unused space into productive property; and sharpen the competitiveness of business enterprises. The committee is responsible for developing financial incentives for the downtown and business oriented workshops to help businesses prosper. Finally the committee gathers economic and market data that will assist other committees in developing projects to bolster downtown.
